Wood

Wood should be recycled if it cannot be reused:

  • Ten million tonnes of waste wood is produced each year in the UK
  • Only 1.5 million tonnes of waste wood is recycled in the UK every year. The remaining 85 per cent is sent to landfill Wood sent to landfill produces methane gasses and contributes to global warming
  • The Government has now set targets to reduce the amount sent to landfill
  • These targets are passed onto business and public sector organisations which have to prove they are recycling a proportion of the waste wood
  • The Government has also introduced packaging regulations for organisations using packaging. By recycling your wood you can also meet these regulations
